Nice cosy space for a very intimate dining experience. The place is well decorated with posters and items from the 70/80s. The food is very reasonable for it's price point. The restaurant has a large menu, so we didn't manage to try everything. From what we had, the beef rendang is a top recommendation and a must try! The black squid was a surprise, and is something different from your regular squid dish. A must, open their prawn crackers! Fluffy, crunchy, and light, it was a delight to have. Food was served promptly, and we had a good experience.

Kitty and I, along with our friends, decided to have lunch at Bumbu Restaurant, a popular Peranakan eatery near Beach Road. We'd heard amazing things about this place, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The moment we stepped inside, we were transported to a Peranakan paradise, with the restaurant's charming decor and ambiance evoking the charm of Malacca's historic Peranakan restaurants. The space is clean, cozy, and comfortably cool, making it a truly inviting place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal. We were led to the second floor, which was pleasantly uncrowded at the time, giving us a chance to snap some pictures and soak in the atmosphere. The Peranakan vibe was so strong, it felt like we were actually in one of those beautiful old restaurants in Malacca! When we arrived around 1 PM, we asked our friendly waiter for recommendations on some of their most popular dishes. Our friends took the initiative to order all the dishes he suggested, and we decided to skip the rice so we could really focus on the variety of flavors. We were really excited to try the Seafood Fried Mee Sua, but our waiter suggested that the Buah Keluak Chicken would pair well with rice because of the rich gravy. However, we still decided to go with fried eggs as a side dish to our meals. Here's a breakdown of our favorites: - Buah Keluak Chicken: The rich, savory flavors of the Buah Keluak Chicken were simply phenomenal! The chicken was so tender and juicy, perfectly complemented by the unique aroma of the Buah Keluak nuts. The gravy was so delicious, and we were glad we went with the fried egg as a side dish! It made for a truly satisfying combination. However, after a few bites, the chicken felt a little heavy without rice to balance the richness. - Fish Maw Soup: This flavorful soup was a delightful start to our meal. The delicate fish maw pieces were cooked to perfection, and the broth was both comforting and flavorful. Kitty and our friends all agreed that the Fish Maw Soup was a true standout. - Ngok Hiang: We couldn't resist trying this iconic Peranakan dish! The Ngoh Hiang was crispy on the outside and packed with delicious meaty flavors. Everyone, including Kitty and our friends, really enjoyed the Ngoh Hiang. - Nonya Chapchye: This classic Peranakan dish was a perfect mix of textures and flavors. The combination of vegetables and spices was simply delightful. While we enjoyed the Nonya Chapchye, we all agreed that our family's recipe for Japchae still holds a special place in our hearts. - Seafood Fried Mee Sua: This dish was a true standout. It was a delightful combination of fresh seafood and crispy mee sua noodles. The savory sauce added a wonderful layer of flavor to the dish. - Tahu Telur: The Tahu Telur was a satisfying and comforting dish. The crispy tofu was perfectly cooked, and the egg gravy was rich and flavorful. We all agreed that the Tahu Telur was a standout dish. - Honey Osmanthus: This sweet and floral dessert was the perfect way to end our meal. The honey and osmanthus flavors were perfectly balanced, and the dessert was refreshingly light. I went with the coconut, while Kitty and our friends enjoyed other drinks. The drinks were all refreshing and delicious, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was really helpful in recommending dishes and making sure we didn't over-order for our group of three. He even helped us choose a selection of dishes that allowed us to try all their most popular options. A nice touch is that they also provide two baskets of keropok on each table. While these are $2 per basket, they make a great addition to the meal for those who want a little something extra to munch on. Overall, we had an absolutely fantastic lunch at Bumbu Restaurant. The food was nice, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was absolutely charming.

Slightly above average. I'd give a 6.5/10. I have to say the tahu telor was the best dish. The next best dish was the steam fish with lime. The kangkong and rendang was a little disappointing. I've had better kangkong and beef rendang. The aesthetics of the place is pretty nice. The food came pretty quick as well.
